This information was part of Bob Astheimer's personal files used to analyze the
characteristics of the Bay Swim events until 1996, when the data were sent to GCBS Organizers and Brian Earley, founder of the GCBS. Since then, the
information relating to the number of GCBS finishes per
swimmer has been used by GCBS Organizers for determining who receives a GCBS
"longevity" award after they complete 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 GCBSs (completions need not be
consecutive!). Other than providing such information, the Bay Swim Archives web site is
not part of the Bay Swim organization, Lin-Mark Sports, Inc. or RunSignup.
The master Excel file that contains the Bay Swim results for all years is updated and
"finalized" once annually sometime after each Bay Swim event. Therefore, any
corrections to past results are collected and made only once a year (bayswimarchive@gmail.com to
submit corrections). All
derivative files are created from the master Excel spreadsheet after it has been finalized
with the new data.
This was a volunteer effort for Bob. Sadly, Bob passed away in 2020 from complications associated with a stroke.
However, volunteers are still maintaining the website, and providing organizers with the names of swimmers eligible
for a Longevity Award at the next swim. Should you have any corrections, please e-mail them to bayswimarchive@gmail.com.
If you use and enjoy this site, please think of donating more to the March of Dimes GCBS fund-raising events as a show of your appreciation. In addition, a foundation has been established,
in memory of Bob, to support people who have overcome a physical, mental or social challenge in the pursuit of athletics, particularly swimming. The foundation is dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments
of individuals and help them to continue to pursue their dreams, contributing to their community and society in a meaningful way.
